  Testifying in Native Language (California)

  Besides the fact that "Truly bilingual" would be almost impossible to prove, several sections of the Labor Code require the use of an interpreter where the employee "cannot effectively communicate" with a medical provider (LC 4600), or LC 2810.5(a)(1) "At the time of hiring, an employer shall provide to each employee a written notice, in the language the employer normally uses to communicate employment-related information to the employee;" for a deposition under 5710, "If interpretation services are required because the injured employee or deponent does not proficiently speak or understand the English language, upon a request from either, the employer shall pay for the services of a language interpreter certified or deemed certified

  if the employer is self insured, in which situation the claims are merely adjusted by some third party administrator, the attorney clearly represents the employer (but still has, as his client, the CA.)

  Travel reimbursement to Deposition (California)

  This is an interesting issue. Applicant's counsel chose to handle a case in Salinas, while he resides in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the applicant, the case venue, and presumably defense counsel are all in Salinas. The depo would logically take place in Salinas, but applicant's counsel would likely be required to drive approximately 400 miles round trip to attend the deposition
